Stig Lindberg designed “Reptil” (translated to Reptile) in 1953 and featured a series of three vases and two dishes/bowls. The design is minimalistic with clean curved edges and a scale-like relief design all around, manufactured by Gustavsberg.
Stig Lindberg (1916–1982) was one of Sweden’s most renowned designers and a significant figure in 20th-century Scandinavian design. He was known for his whimsical, imaginative, and innovative works that spanned ceramics, textiles, glass, and industrial design. Lindberg’s collaboration with Gustavsberg, one of Sweden’s oldest porcelain manufacturers, was particularly influential. He joined Gustavsberg in 1937, and over the next decades, he played a key role in shaping the company’s identity and its rise to international prominence. The “Reptil“ series is one of Lindberg’s more distinctive and less whimsical works, designed for Gustavsberg in the 1950s and 1960s.
