A striking example of mid-century Swedish glass design, this “Bamboo” vase was designed by Bo Borgström for Åseda Glasbruk during the 1960s. Instantly recognisable for its segmented, cane-like form, the design draws inspiration from natural bamboo stalks — each raised band giving rhythm, structure and a beautifully tactile quality to the piece.
This example features a rich, deep yellow casing over a clear crystal base, rather than the lighter citron tones sometimes seen. The saturated colour has real presence — warm, golden and confident — catching the light beautifully while the clear foot and interior add depth and clarity. When placed near natural light, the contrast between the clear and coloured layers becomes even more pronounced, showcasing the quality of the Swedish glassmaking techniques of the period.
Elegant yet playful, it works equally well styled with a single sculptural stem or displayed as a standalone decorative object. A strong, sculptural piece of 1960s Scandinavian design that embodies both simplicity and character.

🧡 Why It Stands Out
The deeper yellow tone sets this example apart from the more commonly found lighter versions. Combined with the iconic “bamboo” silhouette and Borgström’s refined Scandinavian design language, it makes for a vibrant yet timeless statement piece.
