A beautifully crafted Swedish rosewood cabinet dating from the 1960s, likely produced as a “Gesällprov” – a cabinetmaker’s journeyman test piece. Within Scandinavian craft tradition, these pieces were created by apprentice cabinetmakers to demonstrate their skill before qualifying as fully trained craftsmen, often resulting in furniture of exceptional quality and thoughtful design.
The cabinet features striking book-matched rosewood veneers across the doors, showcasing the deep tones and dramatic grain that made rosewood one of the most sought-after materials in Scandinavian furniture of the period. Inside, the cabinet reveals a carefully arranged interior with open shelving, a series of smaller drawers, and a beautifully detailed internal cupboard finished in decorative burr veneer, adding both visual interest and practical storage.
Raised on elegant tapered legs with two additional drawers below, the cabinet balances refined proportions with functionality. In our photographs it has been styled as a bar cabinet, where the shelving and smaller compartments work perfectly for storing glassware, bottles, and bar tools. Equally, it could function beautifully as a drinks cabinet, display cabinet, or compact storage piece in a living room, dining space, or hallway.

✨ Restoration Details
The cabinet has been fully restored in our workshop. The rosewood has been carefully stripped and hand-sanded using various grades of paper before being refinished to revive the depth and warmth of the grain. The internal compartments and drawers have been cleaned and refreshed, while all structural elements have been checked to ensure the cabinet is solid and functioning as intended.

Excellent vintage condition following restoration. The rosewood presents beautifully with strong colour and grain throughout, while the interior shelving, drawers, and compartments are clean and fully functional. As with all vintage furniture, very minor age-related character may remain.
